KDP Recognizes First 2008
Teacher of Honor

Dr. Madeline Kovarik, Assistant Professor of Education at Rollins College has been awarded the first Teacher of Honor designation from Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education. Kovarik received the award at a breakfast uniting over 70 education alumni from several decades.
When asked what her favorite part of the
program was, she said, “The highlight for me was when Scott Hewit (a colleague) announced my receipt of a KDP Teacher of Honor. I was thrilled!”

“Dr. Kovarik is exactly the kind of professional this honor was created for,” said Susan Dunne, former co-worker at Roosevelt School and retired educator. “She is a highly professional, dedicated educator who loves teaching and education.”

To qualify for the Teacher of Honor designation, Kovarik submitted an application documenting her completion of eight rigorous criteria. During her academic career at Rollins College, she has served as an advisor and national volunteer for KDP, participated on the Regional Board of Odyssey of the Mind, and volunteered on the Brevard County Public Schools Professional Development Council.

This past January, Kovarik took a group of education majors to a Caribbean Island to work in high poverty schools. In February, she traveled through Florida to assist with the Florida Department of Education accreditation review of other education programs. She will be assisting with the planning of the 2008 Kappa Delta Pi Convocation and Educational Development to take place in Orlando in fall 2008.

“Great teachers change lives by inspiring students to recognize their gifts and to learn how to use them to pursue a worthy dream. Madeline Kovarik is one such great teacher,” said Kappa Delta Pi International President Dr. Karen Nicholson.
