The Emeritus Teacher

Emeritus teachers are those individuals who continue to contribute to the profession even after they formally retire. Many individuals leave the classroom to pursue other careers related to teaching. During the next decade, "Baby-Boom" teachers will retire by the thousands. Their retirement and a rapid growth in the U.S. population will result in a significant teacher shortage. It is quite likely that the profession will need to turn to its emeritus workforce for support.
